Wiki So Far

In the class wiki, I so far have contributed content to the YouTube page. I realized the event/the platform of YouTube Black hasn't been added. This year, black creators have dealt with racism and lack of allies from major companies. I talk about how YouTube started changing that in March 2016. Inclusivity is very important and in my contribution I supplied content on how it started. Along with the goal for YouTube Black and future projects. Also, I inserted a photo because it's different from YouTube Kids and YouTube Red. I plan to edit more pages that surround my interests and likes by providing information that aren't talked enough about.

P2P

File sharing is the private or public access to digital media(eBooks, documents and more) that can be shared from one computer to another. P2P file sharing stands for peer-to-peer file sharing. It is a software program used to locate computers that have a file you want to download. A few examples of P2P sharing are LimeWire, BearShare and BitTorrent. In the article "The BitTorrent Effect," the text states "The real value of the so-called BitTorrent broadcaster would be in highlighting the good stuff, much as the collaborative filtering of Amazon and TiVo helps people pick good material." P2P is very useful but should be closely monitored because it is a multitude of files and if not used or active it just takes up space.

Privacy

Privacy and confidentiality are very important in relation to new media. New media is comprised of blogs, websites, and social networks. When you sign up for a social media network, there is a privacy statement in almost every site providing their users with information of the rights they have. Privacy allows the individual who uses new media to be protected in what they choose to share with the company or institution. Whereas, confidentiality protects the unauthorized use of information already there. In that case, reading the privacy statement and terms of conditions is vital because in any incident something were to be leaked you are aware of the facts or fault within the institution. Most new media is being personalized within your account and you must be conscious on what you allow the Internet to see.

Advice

If I was hired by Baruch to incorporate new media, I would suggest creating a platform where its up to date with trends and actually asks for the students' interests. Baruch has many surveys trying to improve the school and not many people may engage with it. Depending on the sort of feedback they want, people might bypass completing it unless necessary. Creating content that students actually are interested in will generate more interaction within the college community. Another suggestion is reinventing a new look for Baruch as a whole through their website, social media accounts and more. Baruch could be a school viewed as very serious in which it is but revamping how it looks could bring more attention to it. Allowing students the freedom to add new visual identity to the Baruch name can provide a new outlook on who and what fuels the school to be its best. Also, allowing students to take over the media accounts time to time because its familiarity as well as relatability on the day to day of being a college student or faculty member.
